Scorr House location is just 3 miles from the village of Portree the capital of the island and situated on the east side of Skye. Portree was created as a fishing village at the beginning of the 19th century around only 200 years ago. It has a harbour fringed by cliffs, with a pier designed by Thomas Telford.
Attractions in the town include the Aros centre which celebrates the islands Gaelic heritage and the Royal Hotel, which is the site of MacNab's Inn, the last meeting place of Flora MacDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746.
Scorr House is situated in Heatherfield, Portree, which was an area broken up into 'crofts' (very small packets of land) in 1832. Most of the people had come from Scorr, a location just around the bay from Scorr House.
Scorr House is right on the shore where originally, the family ran a small boat building business. In many crofting communities on Skye, the original families have moved but Heatherfield is quite unique in that most of the inhabitants are descended from the first crofters.
There is an island out in front of Scorr House known as Saint Columba's Island where there is a ruin of a small monk's cell. The island was also the scene of a Viking encounter when the island was encircled and the captive blinded and castrated.
